Starter - Editing Techniques

S - Shot-reverse shot structure - usually conversation sequences - usually OTS (over the shoulder shot) and MCU (medium close up)

A - Action Match - Continuous action by having action in multiple shots

C - Cross cutting (/parallel action) - shows action happening simultaneously between two locations

I - Insert shot - Close up to show something in the main shot in more detail, to get information, provides answers or sets up a puzzle

E - Eyeline match - can show what people are thinking, often from the character's perspective, tries to keep continuity of angles, it's a special shot-reverse shot


Dissolve - Overlap of two shots

Wipe - Pushes one scene away for the next

Fade - Dips to black to transition to anothe scene
